Late Ambassador Satinder Kumar Lambah believed that peace and reconciliation between India and Pakistan were possible and, without which, India could not straddle the global stage. He has served history by penning a riveting account of the vicissitudes of India-Pakistan relations from 1980 until 2014 upon being persuaded to do so by his well-wishers. He began the project in late 2020 after being diagnosed with cancer and completed it before passing away in June 2022.

The book is not just a ringside view but the considered narration of a practitioner. During the period covered by the book, Lambah served as the Indian Deputy High Commissioner (1978-81) and High Commissioner (1992-95) in Islamabad, and in between the two assignments, as the head of the Afghanistan, Iran, and Pakistan Division in the Ministry of External Affairs, and finally as Prime Minister’s special envoy (from March 2005), an inspired choice made by Dr Manmohan Singh.
