The importance of the education of the handicapped is now universally recognized. All over the world special education is increasingly demanding and getting attention. In the developed countries interest in special education is certainly not new, issues involved in special education have been discussed, debated and acted upon since the last century. Consequently an enormous amount of material, in the form of books and research writings, is available on this important subject. We, in India, are able to get a large number of books particularly from Britain and the United States of America. Interest in special education in the developing countries is fairly recent and as is well known it is closely tied up with the money towards universalization of elementary education. Since in India a concerted effort is being made to universalize elementary education, special education in our country is now deserving of serious consideration. If all children are to be in school, then the handicapped child cannot be ignored. However, in the developing countries in general, and in India in particular there is a noticeable paucity of written material on this important area of education. Dr. Jangira’s book on special education is therefore certainly a timely and worthwhile contribution.
