Manipur, now a trouble-torn State, its governance plagued by a flawed reservation policy is said to have exacerbated the pre-existing difference between the inhabitants of the valley and those of the hills. This book covers the period immediately before the onset of that macabre phase in the history of Manipur. Despite his being a stranger in academia, the author was given charge of a troubled university in a troubled State for 25 months, from October 2018 and ending in November 2020, by the High Court of the State to set things on an even keel as its Administrator. The author indulges in some autobiographical details to explain his long association with the State since 1977-78 as a young and dynamic Under-Secretary in the Education Department of Manipur. Manipur attained Statehood only in 1972 and its colleges had been affiliated to Guwahati University in Assam. However, the exclusionism of the Ahomsinterrupted the academic schedule of Manipur. To cope with the demand for increasing number of personnel in the State, a post-graduate centre of the Jawaharlal Nehru University was set up in Manipur.
