Run is a cute little picture book for preschoolers. It is a wordless creation. The author has illustrated this book so well that the story she wants to tell comes alive without a single written word. A big Himalayan sheepdog chases three children, who come face to face with it and, terrified by its loud bark, start running through the hills. When they reach the edge of the cliff they are met with a furry surprise. The illustrations are colourful and vibrant and little ones would want to see them repeatedly. The author says that the story is based on her childhood memory of being chased, along with her cousins, through the hills of Himachal by a dog.

The illustrations are very vivid and while reading the book out aloud to a child, the reader can weave any number of stories around them. All in all, a very good picture book for little ones. Kavita Singh Kale is an author of children’s books, illustrator and animation filmmaker whose illustrations have made their way into several award-winning books. An alumnus of the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad and College of Art, Delhi, Kavita’s artworks construct worlds that are thoughtful, playful and wacky. Run is her ninth book.
