My tiny friends, if you remember, I had mentioned in the Nov/Dec. ’87 issue of The Book Review that a wagon full of new books written by Indian authors had arrived in our book market. I wonder if you had the time to read some of them what with examinations on your head, but I delved into the wagon and guess what I found—two exciting books published recently by CBT.

Out of the two books, the book entitled Some More Short Stories was the more impressive. A delightful collection of twenty short stories meant for the modern school-going child in the age group of ten plus. When I say modern, it does not mean that the mystic or the folklore touch is missing. The stories are full of adventure, some set in urban scenario and some amidst the rural back-ground like the story Raju’s Pet by E.W. Sohanlal. A simple and yet tender story of Raju and his pet cow Tulsi. The agony of Raju who is threatened with separation from his pet would appeal to all children who keep pets.
