Vivek Narayanan’s After should be a rewarding experience for scholars and sceptics alike. It opposes the singular reading of the Ramayana and is in fact inspired by the subversive undercurrents in Valmiki’s Ramayana.[1] It is not just a reimagination of the Ramayana, but is about what comes after, that is, the classical text’s social implication and political implementation in contemporary India.
