Child and adolescent development are at the centre of educational judgement and action. Development, learning and teaching are closely interlinked, especially in the schooling period. Programmes of teacher education and education in India often rely on Western, Eurocentric and Global North discourses on children, childhood, and adolescents. Over the last many years, Indian academia has seen a handful of well-researched works focusing on these constructs. The Childhoods in India: Trends, Traditions and Transformations by Saraswathi, Menon and Madan (2016) is one such edited compilation that provides conceptual, empirical and analytical literature on Childhoods in India. The recent volume edited by Namita Ranganathan, Contemporary Perspectives on Childhood and Adolescence: Development, Diversity and Inclusion is a welcome addition which offers contemporary Indian literature and thought in this area.
