This beautifully illustrated book brings together the rich diversity within Amir Khusrau’s work which is seminal in creating a sense of urban heritage. It presents the merging of two civilizations—the Hindu and the Islamic and offers a comprehensive understanding of the beginnings of the Hindustani culture and the continuity into the present cultural milieu of the region. The book includes copies of illustrations from the manuscripts of Amir Khusrau, the Khamsa of Nizami Ganjavi, and works of other great poets of the Persianate world, who influenced him. The book starts with tracing history back to the Persianate society.
