All three books published by Eklavya and edited by Disha Nawani, Nandini Manjrekar, Rashmi Paliwal, Ruchi Shevade, Noam Chomsky. while speaking on ‘values for a new world’, identify three major problems of the world today—nuclear power race, climate catastrophe and infodemic, leaving only 30 seconds to the midnight of human extinction which he calls omnicide.
Stimulated by this, I reflect on the role of modern education system in hastening or delaying and ultimately eliminating the possibility of omnicide in the foreseeable future. Does education prepare students for the contemporary world or for a new world? Is it likely to take care of the three problems identified?
