The edited volume addresses the issue of inclusion and diversity in higher education through eight chapters that present reflective accounts of research work undertaken by faculty and research scholars in universities in the National Capital Region of Delhi. The editor Kanika Singh is the Director of the Centre for Writing and Communication at Ashoka University. Contributing authors are from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Dr. BR Ambedkar University, Delhi, Jamila Millia Islamia and OP Jindal University. The chapters thus provide a mix of perspectives from Centre, State, and privately funded universities.
The book has been released at an opportune time when debates around social diversity and its representation in higher education have entered academic discourse in higher education. Kanika Singh, through her experience at the writing centre, shares her observation about challenges that students from diverse social backgrounds face in higher education. In the introduction section, Singh acknowledges that a theoretical understanding of social inclusion and its urgent necessity does not automatically translate into its successful implementation.
