‘For a great work to be born, the power of the “man” and the power of the moment have to come together,’ is a common notion on how literary greatness accrues to a work. But, today, Heart Lamp has altered this perception, complexifying it in important ways. Equally, Heart Lamp has extended the ‘right place, right time’ argument used to explain the success of a book to include adopting the ‘right moves and right processes’. The work has made visible the current conditions of production and reception that go to make a translated work, shared through global English, into a contemporary classic of our world.
