Any book on minorities written by a person from the same community equates the community’s position and their wellbeing in that country from the perspective of their numerical strength, as if the status of minorities is determined only through their numerical presence.

There are several books and articles that have been published on the state of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, the role of Hindus in the 1971 liberation war and the Vested Property Act that disposed off their property. While the status of minorities in Pakistan is accepted as fait accompli in India, in Bangladesh it is examined critically and the Awami League’s—a Party that professes secularism—treatment of minorities is scrutinized.
