The Partition of India is a bottomless well of grief that brims over with trauma, psychological disorders, coping mechanisms, and a lasting, lingering sense of displacement and nostalgia. The parents and other elders of the family of the author have undergone this shattering cataclysm in their lives which tore them away from their roots, leaving them maimed and broken. Their minds and souls never recover even if the transplanted saplings of their selves appear to grow ‘normally’ in the transplanted soil. The author rambles through the childhood bylanes of memory, recalling the idyllic surroundings of the home she grew up in, surrounded by devoted relatives.
