‘The personal is political’ was the slogan that drove the second wave feminists to bring their personal experiences to the political forefront, and examine how their personal is inextricably interwoven with the larger social and historical context. In Dalithan, we are presented with the life of a person who has embraced the political as personal. Held in high esteem in Kerala, KK Kochu is well known for his writings in the Dalit magazine SEEDIAN (Socially, Economically and Educationally Depressed Indian Ancient Natives), and active contributions to uplift the lives of Dalits and Adivasis. His political preoccupation in life is reflected in the autobiography as well, where his personal life and experiences are pushed to the background with politics taking centre stage.
