Goddess of the River is a weaving together of magnanimity with magnitude by a young author Vaishnavi Patel. This is her second attempt at retelling, the first being Kaikeyi (2022). Even as the Mahabharata sustains itself as the repertoire of dharma and dosha, the contemporary ethos of retellings has given us a parallel lit-verse (so to say) of the many voices which make the epic poem. Even as P Lal conceived the art of trans-creation, adaptations and retellings have made the epic poem accessible to those who may have otherwise survived on the bare-minimum and hearsay understanding of this mahakavya.
