Being the grandson of both Mahatma Gandhi and C Rajagopalachari certainly provides a unique vantage point to narrate and review the history of our nation. Gopal Gandhi’s varied experiences and his career trajectory makes his an even more unusual perch: an IAS officer who in the course of his career also worked at a senior level with two Presidents, served in a number of diplomatic assignments including as Ambassador to South Africa, Sri Lanka and Norway, and finally someone who has been Governor of two large and demanding States.
